The Bachelor and The Bachelorette are two of America’s favorite reality television shows. Many people are secretive about their love of the show, but it has so many twists and turns that make the show so exciting.

The people that go on these reality shows are often times truly looking for love. People with a strong desire to find that right person may realize that the bachelor or bachelorette is seeking the same type of commitment. Some people believe that the whole show is just a farce, but true love has been found many times. It does appear however that the people that are most in love with the show’s star usually do not make it to the end. The show is based on the premise that the star has to make a choice about the people who could be a future spouse.

Love can definitely ensue, and it often does. This basically takes months out of the “getting to know you” phase of a relationship, and many realties become evident rather quickly.

There are some contestants that do the show for the notoriety that it brings, but most of the people do want to have a happily ever after.
What’s 1 more click? Your boss isn’t watching… Footballers Who Really Need Reality Shows

The Stinkers: The Worst Reality Shows

Ever since “Survivor” took American audiences by storm in 2000, U.S. airwaves have been inundated with reality shows. And many have been horrible, as in the following.

“Are You Hot?: The Search for America’s Sexiest People” was a 2003 ABC reality show in which even the title was degrading. Here, three celebrity judges – Rachel Hunter, Lorenzo Lamas and Randolph Duke – examined the bodies of a parade of contestants, and pointed out their physical flaws in excruciating detail.

“Temptation Island” aired on Fox from 2001 to 2003. It showcased a group of couples sent to an exotic island. On arrival, these people were separated from their partners and made to live with attractive singles of the opposite sex. This show actually did well in the ratings, and a number of versions were produced for nations around the world.

Finally, “The Benefactor” was a low-rated ABC reality show starring billionaire Mark Cuban; it lasted about six weeks in the fall of 2004. Contestants competed in challenges, such as being interviewed by Cuban, in order to win a million dollars. Cuban may be a talented individual, but his show seemed like a rip-off of Donald Trump’s “The Apprentice” in every way.

The Amazing Race takes eleven teams consisting of two members on a race over thousands of miles and several continents. In each leg of the race, teams must complete challenges that require mental and/or physical skill. When each leg ends, the last team in is usually eliminated. The last three teams complete the race, and the first team in at the completion of the last leg wins one million dollars.

The teams consist of married or dating couples, family members and friends. The competition is just as much about the dynamics between teammates as it is about the challenges. The full explanation can be found at http://www.seattlepi.com/ae/tv/tvguide/article/Amazing-Race-s-Phil-Keoghan-Previews-Finale-3535549.php Teammates who bicker their way through the leg tend to make mistakes which often cost them the race.

At the end of each leg, host Phil Keoghan greets the teams to tell them their fate. He seems sincerely sympathetic when teams are eliminated and equally enthusiastic when they do well. The conversation at the mat is usually informative and explains some issues between teams that occurred during the leg.

The Amazing Race is one of the few reality programs that does not require contestants to plot against each other. While some teams attempt to work against other teams, the teams that help each other tend to get further in the race.

Most people are familiar with the sound of Bad Boys playing and sirens on television. These are the sounds of the television show COPS. It was the first reality show before all of these other shows that have made their way to homes. This was a weekend show that made most people thankful they never committed a crime. Who would want to have their story broadcast on television? However, at the same time, people who watched the show sometimes got a good laugh because there have been some strange criminals.
Why was this the first reality show? The answer to that is simple. COPS was one of the first shows on television that took the camera crew with them. As you watched the police officer chase the criminal, you also saw someone with a camera running after them. The police officers brought you into the car as they were waiting for a call to come in. They discussed their personal lives until they started toward a robbery, fight or car chase. The show is still on television, and as long as there are people who do not listen to the law, it will probably remain on television for years to come.

Whether you shout it from rooftops or wait until you are alone behind closed doors, it seems like everyone has an addiction to reality TV. Remember when the rose went to the wrong girl on The Bachelor? How about when Jenna and Heidi stripped for food on Survivor? How much did you cry when you heard Susan Boyle and Paul Potts? But what makes us love it so much? Although many people complain that reality TV is new and just a blimp on the screen, the truth is reality TV is just as American as apple pie. You’re probably scratching your head right about now, but just hear me out.

Competition.

If you really boil down all of our favorite reality shows, aren’t they just people competing for a prize? As the famous reality phrase goes, “I’m not here to make friends. I’m here to win.”

People have been watching others compete since, probably, the time of cavemen. We’re taking pleasure in exactly what society has enjoyed since…well…we had a society. The only difference is that we get to root on our favorites from the comfort of our super comfy couches. So the next time someone says something about of your love of Simon Cowell, just let them know that you’re keeping company with the likes of Plato and Einstein. What are they doing with their nights?

While it is technically listed as a “reality-competition” show, the fact is that it is so much more. It is a travel show that goes to the remote corners of the planet to show different people and cultures; it’s a dramatic shows that gives you people that you actually end up caring about whether they win and lose; and most of all, it is an action show that gets you sucked in the first minute you watch it. It’s no wonder that it’s one of the top rated shows on television.
In a world of reality shows that tend to show the worst in humanity, you could argue that “The Amazing Race” shows a much more balanced view. It shows that in a competitive environment, some people are going to be at their worst, while others can be at their best. You can judge someone for an action in one moment, and then quickly realize why they did it in the next. In the end, “The Amazing Race” is one of the most fascinating shows on television not just because of where they go, but also what it shows about human beings as well.

If you have never heard of the show “Cops” you have probably not watched much television in your lifetime. With that said, the show came out in the 1990s as a show where camera crews tagged along with on duty policy officers and filmed their day to day encounters, many of which were quite entertaining. What’s so significant about this television series is the fact that it appeared way before anyone had even heard the term “reality tv show”. In all reality though (no pun intended), cops was truly the first of its kind, which is probably why the term “reality tv show” did not become a commonly used phrase in the world television until more shows that used the same strategy production came out into the marketplace.

Cops truly set a precedent for the plethora of reality tv shows that were to come after it. Never before had a show been filmed without the use of paid actors to entertain audiences around the globe. The genius of this type of tv show is the fact that they had replaced their number one most expense cost (actor’s salaries) and replaced them with people who were not paid for their part in the tv show. This was simply because the camera crews that followed the police officers were the only ones that were being paid for their time – the police officers were just doing their job, which just so happened to be filmed. Cops was a tv show that was truly ahead of its time. For better or for worse, there is no doubt that is changed the course of tv programming forever.
